Instructions
Basic Workflow
Enter or paste
konnakol passages in the Transcriptions editor.
Adjust settings
(BPM, velocity, pitch mode, tala).
Click Export MIDI
to download zipped MIDI files.
Unzip
to access inidividual MIDI files.
Notation Format
Sections:
[section_name]
on its own line. Names the following konnakol passage until the next
[section_name]
.
One unbracketed
token
= 1/16th note. Tokens are divided by a space in the middle.
Syllables:
thom num dhin cha ki ta
etc.
Speed brackets:
[
ki ta tha ka
]
plays at 2× speed.
Rest:
_
(underscore), represents one token's time value in the given context. i.e.
[
_
]
= 1/32nd rest.
Comments:
#
to add notes afterwards in the same line (ignored)
Settings
BPM:
Tempo (20–300)
Velocity:
MIDI volume (1–127)
Tala:
Select the tala of the Konnakol input for proofreading.
Time Signature:
Adjustable meter to fit the respective tala
Output:
Export each section as a separate MIDI file or combine all
Pitch Mode:
Syllable
: MIDI notes map to 11 different konnakol syllables.
Mridangam
: MIDI notes map to 9 different mridangam stroke sounds (
ka
ki
dhi
→same pitch).

Filename prefix:
Add a prefix to all the filenames in bulk.
